Hello!

One of the biggest ISPs in Germany forces a disconnect not later than after 24 hours uptime. M0n0 reconnects at once, that works fine.

It would be nice if there would be the possibility to move this reconnect into a defined window of one or max. two hours. In this case, m0n0 disconnects (e.g. at 23:59h uptime in the defined time window) and reconnects at once. All AVM-Routers are providing this option, I added a screenshot (in German) of the concerning part in the web-interface of one of these routers.

Big files can't be downloaded if you forget to reconnect before you start the download. Very annoying, if the webserver doesn't support continuing a download. Messengers don't recognize the disconnect in time. You see, not a big problem at all, but this feature would provide much more comfort to me Smiley

It says:
* Keep connection alive
[X] Move forced disconnect in the time window between [6-7] o'clock

Why I don't use this router? 10ms more latency and it sometimes loses some packets. Smiley

Good night!

I think it has been requested multiple times now, so please do this Sad
Most DSL users suffer from this.

You can run a reconnect script on a machine behind m0n0wall, and you can schedule that as you wish. You will need two additional programs, wget and sleep, both freely available.

If you want a copy of the script, let me know.

What's happen if you will not disconnect within 24 hours?

You're automatically reconnected. But you're not able to control WHEN this is happening. Thus the request here.

After disconnecting m0n0wall will try to reconnect automatically.
This is transparent for users.

What if there is no machine behind m0n0wall when I want to reconnect?

It could probably be done remotely from any machine that can reach the m0n0wall. Access to the webgui from the WAN would have to be enabled.

If you disconect the WAN how do you want reconect it from WAN ? Wink

The only solution for this "problem" is Scheduled disconnect.. it is available in Pf sense for exemple. When you have the disconection imposed after xx hours by your ISP, the only solution to manage the time of network interruption is scheduled disconnect/reconnect.

Many requests was already made in mailling list :

http://m0n0.ch/wall/list/showmsg.php?id=94/62
http://m0n0.ch/wall/list/showmsg.php?id=358/48

And forum :

http://forum.m0n0.ch/index.php/topic,1487.0.html

And other I think... (sometimes with bad solutions as cut power supply of m0n0  Shocked )

In switzerland DSL disconnect is used by most providers... This option can help us too !

You would have to depend on m0n0wall's ability / tendency to automatically reconnect itself.

I suppose that if one really wants or needs this capability, they could just try what was suggested and see if it works or not.

Otherwise they might put up a cash bounty for the feature to accelerate its development, or even borrow the supposedly available code out of pfsense and either work it in yourself or pay someone to do that for you.

I think personally I'd look at changing my ISP or is this something all ISPs do in your country?
I've never heard of it happening here in the UK since we moved from dial up to DSL.

Ha yes... I have never waited of m0n0 auto-reconnection (when I disco, always reconnect manually).

I have juste linked others requests to show interest of many people. Feature requests are here for this Smiley
For me, if we could have this it is a very good thing but it is not "life critical"

And with VDSL there is no more disconnect no ?

roosterdude > in Switzerland, almost all ISP are doing this. (and in this the 2 bigger...) it is for statisics they said Wink

I know that this thread is quite old but if you are still interested in a scheduler please take a look at my extension: http://forum.m0n0.ch/index.php/topic,5481.0.html
