I'm getting a chance to use m0n0wall, but I'm not sure what the best way of approaching my problem is. I'd really appreciate any advice for this.

I have an existing network with a DHCP server and DNS server on a single subnet. I want to use m0n0wall to connect a second subnet to allow SSH and HTTP traffic in between. I do not want broadcast packets to transfer, and I want the second subnet to take advantage of DHCP and DNS on the first.

Do I have to use 1to1 NAT in this scenario, or is there a way to have the WAN and LAN IPs communicate directly?

Many thanks.

Can you post up a diagram, will help us better visualize what your goals are. So far, I'm sure you can set it up to exactly what you want, going by what I read.

Thanks for the offer -- I ended up finding a solution that works for me. I'm using a private network as a LAN and just 1to1 NATing to the larger private LAN. Isolation is good in this instance.
