I have a Draytek Vigor 100 modem, its not like most other ADSL ethernet modems where it just passes the connection onto the monowall and now I need a PPPoA connection to my ISP, there is support for PPPoE on the WAN interface but this is not what i need, anyone able to help?

currently running the latest stable release.

Hi,

If your modem uses PPP0A than it its task to handle all the connection proces (authentication obtain an ip) and thus it must be configured acoordingly.
I have a ISP provided modem whci is PPPoA, to get it to work i had first to conenct it to my PC, enter the configuration pages set up all parameters and then connect it to m0n0.
Then just set up m0n0 to use DHCP connection on wan side.
BTW it is important that your modem is configured in bridge mode (i.e.: exposing the wan IP address to m0n0).

Hope this helps

thats where the problem is, I have been using a linksys modem in half bridge mode which handles the PPPoA connection, but the modem its self is very poor. and I got this new Draytek modem which is a true Bridge modem where it just handles the sync and passes everything onto the firewall/router (m0n0wall) that includes the PPPoA authentication, if you want full details about the modem it can be got form the manufactures website here http://www.draytek.co.uk/products/vigor110.html I decided to go for this modem as I have been informed that it is the best and most reliable modem around, as it only dose a few things and hands everything else off to the router. hence I need some way of connecting to PPPoA on m0n0.

I did see a patch which provided PPPoA support but that was for an old version of m0n0, unsure if it would work on the version I am using

I have just fully read the Draytek site regarding the modem and I think I have just been a fool and not looked into the problem fully. the modem bridges the connection but provides a PPPoE to PPPoA. the only other problem I may encounter now is assigning a static IP to the WAN interface at the same time as using PPPoE as one of the problems i had with my old setup when the modem re-synced with the ISP it didnt get the IP and/or remote gateway

sorry for the stupidly  Tongue
