Hello,
first a big thanks to all supporters and developers! m0n0wall is a very very nice Firewall. But I have one problem....
I bought a Alix Board. Then, I installed the m0n0wall on a 4 GB Compact Flash card. I need primarily the captive portal. The log should saved internal on the Compact Flash card.

How can I realize it?

I don't want to use a second pc for external logging. It's to expensive and not economical.

I hope for answers....
Big thanks (I hope you understand all)

Nothing is saved to the CF (or HD) other than the configuration file.

The logs sit in RAM only, or they can be pushed out via syslog to another machine. Those are your only two choices.

Hi fredg,
thank you for the answer!
That means that I must running a second machine for syslog? Or can I set up the RAM for more than 50 Captive Portal Entrys?
I heard, that in a new version of m0n0wall should this feature for internal syslogging coming. Is that right?!
Is there a official date for the release date of the new version?

If you want more logs available than what RAM will hold, then you must syslog to another machine.

Look at the Settings section for logs - you can change "Number of log entries to show:" to something higher than 50. But that only changes what is shown. There are more than that number in RAM, but it's hard to say how much more.

I am not aware of what features will be included in future versions, nor do I know of any official release dates.

The only way I can think about is building your own m0n0wall with a few modifications.
- you need to create an extra partition on the CF,
- mount it RW at boot,
- modify the default syslog.conf to write logs to your newly created mountpoint.

(and then you need to think about how you would like to read the logs)

Not really hard to do, but you first need to think about willing to build it your own version...
(may take you a few days)
