How precise is the traffic monitor on the WAN interface?

Hello forum,
I was wondering how precise the traffic monitor really is. I was downloading something big using a download manager, that estimated a current download speed of round about 2,8 mbyte/sec.
However the Traffic graph under /status_graph.php claims that 4,8 mbyte/sec are used on the wan interface.
Which one to believe?
Cheerios,

Don't think so. I explicitly wrote mbyte/sec to make clear I did not mean mbit/sec. One can switch the graph to use mbyte/sec which I did, so no, no confusion with bits and bytes here
