So I am running monowall on an old laptop. If the screen is open I can access monowall and browse on the internet. If I close the screen I can't access monowall or browse the internet, except for google. I don't know why but I can still search on google but no websites will load other than google. As soon as I open the lid all is fine again. I am using a dell inspiron 2650. I didn't see an option in the bios about going to sleep when the screen is closed and the fn+crt/lcd doesn't turn off the screen. Is there a way to turn off the screen or closed the lid without it going all wierd.

Have you tried disabling all power management options in the BIOS?

Steve.

There are no power options in the bios. I have an lcd mode, crt mode, and a mode that has both crt and lcd. None of which allow me to turn off the screen even using the fn key + crt/lcd key.

Ok I figured out a trick. I just hooked up an unplugged crt and I can use the fn+ crt/lcd to turn off the screen, maybe I will just use a paper clip to hook up the pins on the vga that make it think a monitor is connected.

Edit: even easier, I just unhooked the monitor and the screen stayed off and mono is still responsive. yay! I guess I just need something hooked up first to change it. I still can't shut the lid but at least the display is off.
