We upgraded to super fast internet a couple of weeks ago. The setup goes like this: modem->m0n0wall->switches

I didn't see any improvement in speeds, so I did a couple of tests. I plugged in my computer direct to the modem (modem->computer) and got the following speeds:

Down: 51.31 Mb/s
Up: 5.14 Mb/s

Fair enough. Next, I connected the modem to the m0n0wall and connected my computer direct to m0n0wall (modem->m0n0wall->computer). This is what I get:

Down: 17.11 Mb/s
Up: 3.99 Mb/s

I'm using the soekris net4501 board.... not sure if its the board or software/settings that are causing the monowall to cap at around the 16-17 mark. I have traffic shaper disabled and have minimum firewall/nat rules.

any ideas, guys?

thanks!

17 Mbps is about what's to be expected from a net4501 with m0n0wall 1.3. You may be able to get a bit more with 1.23, but in order to max out that link, you'll need a net5501, an ALIX, or something Atom based.

I have a similar problem, I have a connection of 20 Mbps 1:1, and I have set the captive portal to authenticate users by MAC address each other by login and password.

I have not set any limit on data rates, but at times the navigation is very slow and does not open services like msn live messenger and skype on the first try.

monowall I have installed on a dell server with 1236 version generic-pc.
