That's what m0n0wall is used for. It's a router/firewall combo and if you add a supported wireless card it's also an AP.

When you not use some type of hardware (embedded platforms) that support wlan (as access point) then better buy an access point. There ware some ways to get monowall working as access point but i guess its not recommended.

The monowall kernel is small and dont support a lot of different wlan cards. Also you need a wlan card with hostap support.

Read this here: http://doc.m0n0.ch/handbook/hardware-wireless.html

Better buy an access point and connect it to your networks switch.

Hi,

My plan was to use http://www.norco-group.com/Product/Industrial-Firewall-Router/Network-Firewall-Computer/BIS-6580.shtml

any wlan card with atheros chip will work with m0n0wall.  it is little expensive in compare of an access point.
but then i moved to use separate AP. I guess there will be no need for WEB, WPA2  as long as there is a captive portal.
If m0n0wall support running captive portal on bridge interface if_bridge. m0n0wall will make a very good access point. and less expensive, much much less.
regards.
