Hi!

So ive tried to find an answear to this for a while now, but most stuff i find is LAN-related, about the m0n0wall DHCP service and so on. In this scenario however m0n0wall is the client.

Now and then i loose the connection to my isp (might be hw failure on their side) and so the router doesnt get any replies to its DHCPREQUESTs. It then goes on to broadcast DHCPDISCOVER as it should, spanning over roughly a minute, and then states "No DHCPOFFERS received." and tries the recorded lease, bound to immediate renewal, and repeats the process with request and discover as above, one more time. Then it just halts. No more broadcasts or anything, until i (hrs later) do a manual release/renew, and only then do i get back online.
If i however do the release/renew when the ISP is still down, it then has no recorded lease to revert to, so it continues to broadcast DISCOVER-packets and in between sleeping a few minutes, over and over again, until it gets a response.

So the question i have is, how come the router gives up after only two bursts of discover-packets? And is there a way to get the router to keep trying, without having to manually release/renew?

Thanks in advance.

Btw, Im running the embedded-1.33.

Hi,
Exactly same behaviour with 1.33 embedded. It seems to not happening with 1.32 .

Morningstar, did you have found any workaround?

Regards,
Antoine
