I need to set up a wireless bridge with the following requirements:

* operates to -30C
* 900 MHz omni antenna
* GUI for easy changing the wireless channel

I've pretty much narrowed my choices at this point to Soekris or Routerboard (Alix is rated only to 0C). I'm a little shy on MT as I've never used them before, and I prefer the flexibility of x86 hardware. This leaves m0n0 and pfsense. The Soekris 4826 is looking good (I still have to check into the meaning of "Operating temperature 0-60 °C, typical -30 to 60 °C" in the spec), but with only 128 MB flash on board, pfsense is out.

So unless I move to other hardware, m0n0 is looking like my only choice, which brings me to the question. How is hostap performance and stability in m0n0 1.33? The m0n0wall and pfsense FAQs indicate that hostap in FreeBSD 4 is bad, and in 7.2 is good. Where does this leave m0n0 and FreeBSD 6.2?

On the other hand, what is the state of the 1.8 branch these days? There doesn't appear to be much activity in the dev forum. Would anybody recommend 1.8 in a production environment where the only function is a wifi to ethernet bridge?
