I have been testing the 1.8 beta and I am currently using 1.8.0b477 Generic PC Serial on alix2c2 Boards (2 LAN / 2 miniPCI / LX800 / 256 MB / USB)

I have two separate units running on two different networks as well 2 ISP accounts. Everything is working fine except for:

1) When Traffic shaping is enabled inbound NAT rules no longer work, I have tried starting from scratch as well as loading from a working XML back up file

2) PPOE mode connects but however you are unable to load web pages ( MTU settings started at default and lowered as far 1472) Tracert Ping FTP seem to be unaffected. This Happened with a Zyzel Modem in Bridged Mode on Century Link as well as an Allied Modem on Integra Telecom. 1.33 version works with both of these with out issue

Has anyone else had these issues? or know a workaround?

I have an Atheros (AR5413) minipci card. It is not recognized. It works well on m0n0wall 1.33 as well as on pfSense 2.0 RC3.

Hi,

Running the same beta here... one known issue I have reproduced twice so far regarding IPv6 Firewall Rules:

- After booting my m0n0wall installation, my IPv6 firewall rules are not applied or not applied correctly as my ICMPv6 inbound/outbound rules do not allow traceroutes or pings to work successfully. After clicking edit on any rule, clicking Save without any rule changes to expose the Apply Changes button, and then clicking Apply Changes the traffic flows perfectly fine...

Nathan.

I have been testing the 1.8 beta and I am currently using 1.8.0b477 Generic PC Serial on SOEKRIS net4801 - seems to be running great - a few issues in addition to the ones listed:

Time zone: America/Toronto is missing (in 1.33)
Device polling: enabled causes processor use to jump from 9% to 45% [sis interface supports polling in 1.33]

Otherwise pretty happy - testing continues.  WIll test the SOEKRIS net5501 once I finish with the net4801 and swap it in as the backup.

I downloaded and installed the latest snapshot (2011 sept. 30) My problem seems to be solved Smiley
Thanks developers

Hi, I am a user of build 1.33b. I recently loaded the beta 1.8 on a seperate box for testing and it works great with 1 setback. My current 1.33b housed a Ralink Technology (RT2561S) Wi-Fi Crd, which offers some great hardware features. Each hardware comes with it's own features and I like what RT2561S Wi-Fi Crd has to offer.

I place one of these card in the box with the generic pc-1.8 beta build for December 4, 2011 and it did not load the device for use. I notice the device showed under the "Interfaces: Assign network ports: WLAN", but not under the general interfaces section for assigned opt (Interfaces: Assign network ports). My question is: Is m0n0wall not supporting this card in the FreeBSD version 1.8? If so. How do I get this working?

Thanks for the link Fred. I reloaded the kernel and now able to see the device under the WLAN TAB and configured the device with an SSID and assigned it to OPT under the General Interface TAD. As in the other posts in the link you gave me, I am now setup, but the device is not broadcasting a signal. Devices' Status is: no carrier. Any suggestion on how to fix this?

No worries Fred. Thank you for your time with this. I am still working on it so I will post back here with any resolution I come across.

1) When Traffic shaping is enabled inbound NAT rules no longer work, I have tried starting from scratch as well as loading from a working XML back up file

This should now be fixed as of 1.8.0b483 - it was an issue that affected people with network cards that do not support hardware RX/TX checksumming.

Can you try again with the latest beta please? We have upgraded to MPD 5.6 in the meantime, so there's a chance that this is now fixed as well...

Running m0n0wall 1.33 embedded on ALIX2D3 (no battery) which works fine.
Tried generic-pc-serial-1.8.0b489.img with the save config of 1.33.
DNS seems not to does not work in my config.

DNS does not work, looks like the DNS lease is wrong (time).

What DNS lease - do you mean DHCP lease? Can you explain in a bit more detail what exactly doesn't work with DNS?

Hi Manual,
Sorry, yes thought DHCP lease caused this, but not sure now.
I only have on m0n0, so I switched back.
Just after starting, I entered a web address  of a news site (http://www.nu.nl/) in FF and get an error like: can't find server for... Same with other web sites. On inspection, M0n0 configuration seems ok, like in 1.33. But if I look under "Diagnostics: DHCP leases" the time is way in the past (somewhere in 2000/2001). System time is also in the past.
On the WAN I use a spoofed Thomson 510 DSL modem. Ping to provider DNS does not work.
After changing WAN static IP address from /31 to /1, ping works.
Still not fully working on LAN side.

Mvg, Mark

I have been testing the new b491 version of monowall and zeroing in on the captive portal features along with the traffic shaping features while performing numerous speed tests. In my findings and my reading I have seen that you must have 'per user bandwidth restrictions' turned on in captive portal in order to effectively traffic shape....is this true?

My tests having both traffic shaping turned on and set to a download and upload value in comjunction with the per user restriction set to those same values in CP seem to conflict and cause slower speeds. When I turn off per user restrictions in CP and leave just TS turned on it seem to perform better speed tests and more reliable.

Can someone please comfirm their findings as well or siggestions regarding CP user redtrictions vs TS settings or both should be enabled or not?

thanks.....
