Bascially as per the subject line.. unfortunately I'm not quite technical enough to know if m0n0 will work on the Raspberry Pi.. can someone help me out please?

If the answer is yes, then it looks like the perfect bit of cheap hardware to run m0no on... though guess you would need to add a second ethernet port via USB...

Raspberry Pi specs : http://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=raspberrypi&cm_mmc=UK-PPC-0212-_-02_Raspberry_PI-_-Raspberry_PI-_-Raspberry_Pi

Thanks

Unfortunately m0n0wall does not run on ARM based hardware (only x86) - this is because the FreeBSD/ARM port (http://www.freebsd.org/platforms/arm.html) currently doesn't support any hardware that would be particularly interesting for use with m0n0wall.

If that ever changes (i.e. if the FreeBSD/ARM port gets support for the Raspberry Pi), then it would also be possible to make m0n0wall work on it.

I know this topic is a little old, but the new raspberry pi "B"model has a built-in Ethernet port and two USB ports now.

Since the Raspberry Pi is kind of specialized hardware, other than hardware support, what does m0n0wall need to run properly?

It might be a project I could spend some time on.  Grin

Grave bump -- but this is a darn good question Smiley raspberry pi model B is perfect for m0n0.. even has more RAM than what I put into my 128mb virtualbox of m0n0 Grin

What it does not have is an x86 CPU.  It is an ARM processor, and they just ain't the same.

There is a new, ARM-based board from Banana Pi  (BPi-R1) which aims to be used for Routers unlike the devices previously suggested in this thread:

http://www.bananapi.com/index.php/component/content/article?layout=edit&id=59

It comes with five gigabit ethernet ports plus an integrated wifi (and antenna plugs) and a connector for sata ssd modules.

Actually, it seems that it only has two NICs (one with a four-port-Hub) yet it might be an interesting, power-efficient option. Too bad m0n0wall seems not to support ARM yet.

FreeBSD/ARM lists the Allwinner A20 on which the BPi-R1 is based, maybe it would be worth a try to build m0n0wall for this target?

Yeah, I've read about the Banana PI too and I'm interested in trying to get some custom FreeBSD image to work on that device. However, my studies are exhaustively time consuming which makes it rather impossible for me.

So, if anyone else wants to give it a try... please, do!
