Hello,

Is possible to get a good throughput of a net5501 doing Router + Firewall + VPN?   Huh

In your opinion a Soekris net5501 + m0n0wall is enough to take a:
WAN optic fiber connection 40Mbs (web access, no proxy),
At least 100 hosts,
10 web servers,
pptp VLAN with 3 to 10 simultaneous users,
inter vlan routing (3 different lans )
NAT

This is enough? :s I think its not...

Please give me your opinion.. How many hosts did it takes?
\
Thank You

Rafael

Depends on how much routing you're doing between the VLANs. If you expect to get gigabit wire speed, no that's not enough. If you need under ~85 Mbps throughput total through the system, a 5501 is fine.

Hello,

Z:\>iperf.exe -c xxxxx
------------------------------------------------------------
Client connecting to dt-sdi002, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 8.00 KByte (default)
------------------------------------------------------------
[284] local 192.168.x.156 port 56834 connected with 192.168.x.18 port 5001
write failed: Connection reset by peer
read on server close failed: Connection reset by peer
[ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
[284]  0.0-24.3 sec  5.13 MBytes  1.77 Mbits/sec

This result is the normal routing bandwith that i have, i think the VPN service is responsible for this poor performance. Sad
