Hi,

First time posting.

Saturday evening we needed to reboot our M0n0wall firewall.  The FW came back up and performance and connectivity seemed good.  Tuesday morning (closed Monday)  we got reports of poor performance.  We have a 100mb pipe here, I ran a speed test and got 2Mbps down and 80Mbps up.  This is not the norm for us and have had this happen before when rebooting the FW.  The issue seems to magically resolve itself in the afternoon at some point.  Does anyone have some help they can offer?  Let me know if you need any other info to help diagnose.  Thanks in advance.

Are you connecting to a Cisco device?  Is you Status -> Interfaces showing half-duplex?  Cisco's have known issues with duplex settings on everything. (Not just m0n0wall)  You may have to hard set this in the config file.

If not, we will keep trying.

On our lan side we use Netgear switches and I couldn't tell you on the wan side since we are at a savvis datacenter.  The interfaces are set to Full duplex.

Per usual, suddenly our download speed is back to 80mbps and we haven't made any changes or done any reboots.

You will need to get Savvis involved with this.  They are almost definantly useing Cisco.  They will ask if you have it set to force full duplex.  To do this, you have to use the config.xml hidden options.  You want your wan section to look like this, with your IP addresses, of course.
Code:
<wan>
<if>em1</if>
<media>100BaseTX</media>
<mediaopt>full-duplex</mediaopt>
<spoofmac/>
<ipaddr>aaa.bbb.ccc.18</ipaddr>
<subnet>28</subnet>
<gateway>aaa.bbb.ccc.17</gateway>
</wan>

NOTE: I have corrected a typo.

Our issue is back, this time we have not rebooted the fw.  Here is our current network config. I'm on the phone with Savvis now.  Could you please tell me if I need to make any changes?

<wan>
         <if>rl0</if>
         <mtu/>
         <media>100basetx</media>
         <mediaopt>full-duplex</mediaopt>
         <spoofmac/>
         <ipaddr>aaa.bb.ccc.2</ipaddr>
         <subnet>28</subnet>
         <gateway>aaa.bb.ccc.1</gateway>
      </wan>

I corrected a typo above.  I was trying to bold the changes, but within the code tags.  Doh!

As for your page, you may be case insensitive.

Yes, it looks like all you have to do is capitalize "TX" in your media tag.

If you used "SHAPER" then turn it back on and use the wizard to set the speed 120mbit for receiving and transmitting.
