Hello,

I am thinking of setting up a m0n0wall (for the first time) on a VM (VMWare EXSi)

1) Would this be advisable?  My concern being that there would be other OS's on this computer as well
2) Is there any documentation or threads anyone else has created on this?

Notes: Connection is a simple Internet =>Modem =>router =>switch =>computers

Host that will be used is an old gaming rig:
CPU: Intel Q6600
RAM: 4GB DDR2
HDD: 2 x 500GB WD Black

Thanks in advance

There is one already built.  http://m0n0.ch/wall/download.php?file=generic-pc-1.34-vm.zip

You may have to mess with the network assignments, and you probably will have to reassign them in the console, but that is about it.

Thanks, would I burn this to CD like an ISO or just as the vmdk file it comes as? I have little experience with installing vmware unfortunately.

You would upload it into the VMware filesystem, and then import it.

You can just create a new VM and then mount m0n0 ISO, boot and follow the menu, i think it was entry 7 from the menu for installation on HDD. Once installed to HDD reboot and remove the CD, then boot using the HDD and configure the system.
