I'd like to add a wireless access point (probably one of the Netgear ProSafe APs), and would like all users that connect via that interface to be redirected to the captive portal, possibly adding users to a whitelist by MAC filtering. Can I do this?

End of line.

Maybe I'm just spitballing here, but perhaps this could be done with a VLAN?

Sounds like you want to do exactly what I am. I have a regular AP connected to a OPT interface which I named WIFI. For that interface I enabled captive portal and special firewall rules for security. It is pretty straightforward in m0n0wall. Is this what you want to do?

Perhaps - I'll need some assistance with setting this up - I haven't seen any way of setting up an additional interface in the web interface; all I have is rl0 (LAN) and xl0 (WAN).

End of line.

https://your-mono-ip/interfaces_assign.php. You must have a third compatible NIC installed. 1 is for WAN, 2 for LAN, and 3 for the AP. Enable the captive portal on the third interface (OPT1 by default).

If your mono will have only two NICs then you must enable CP on the LAN and use the Pass-through MAC feature (https://192.168.1.254/services_captiveportal_mac.php) to create your whitelist.
