I just want to make sure I understand what m0n0wall is capable of.  From what I gather it will do what I need it to, but I just want to be clear.

I have a dell poweredge 1750 server, which is currently a brick.  I was using it to connect 60 users(only 15 at a time) to the internet through a satellite modem(on a small, remote US camp in Afghanistan).  I was using a trial version of Windows Server 2003, and ISA Server 2006, but the trial is up, and we are back on our pos $40 Linksys.  The only pieces of gear I have are a netgear switch, the server, and the satellite modem.

I just want to make sure that m0n0wall will be able to assign my users IP addresses via DHCP, and allow them all to access the internet(web, IM, webcam, etc).

Thanks,
A tired soldier, ready to come home.

Assuming that the satellite modem handles the connection and you do not need the router to initiate the connection, it should work.  The hardware is plenty to handle monowall.

Hello soldier, a sincere thanks for your service from back home.

Yeah as markb said, as long as your satellite modem comes out as an Ethernet connection, it'll work fine. The functionality you said you need is no problem, that's all enabled in an out-of-the-box configuration. There's a guy on this forum that's running m0n0wall on a satellite connection on a US military base in Iraq.

The hardware is hugely overkill, you could get by with something with much lesser specs, but it'll work fine since it's the only thing you have.

Stay safe, hope you make it home soon.
