Topic: TONS of NetBIOS traffic from a different network?  (Read 1683 times)

This is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Every minute I see hundreds of new (what looks to be) broadcasts on NetBIOS ports (137/138) being blocked from a network that isn't mine (10.5.x.x).
My home network is set up on the usual 192.168.0.x scheme. Most of the computers use NetBIOS (typically just to access a shared printer). I tried disabling/disconnecting all of the computers from the network and even turning off the WAN port (PPPoe) and I'm still getting the same errors. Any idea what's going on? Is this normal? Is there a ghost in my switch?

If you physically unplug the WAN port do you still see it?

Just tested that, it stops when i physically unplug it. I figured bringing down the PPPoE from the Interfaces configuration page would stop anything from coming through.
So what does that mean? Tons of useless/fake traffic coming from my ISP?

PPPoE will automatically reconnect if you hit disconnect. It could also be coming through on the parent interface rather than the PPPoE interface.

Lots of NetBIOS noise on ISP networks is normal, lots of people do stupid things with networks that cause this.
