hi,

I'm posting here my first post, since i have red dozens of topics with no luck. Only this one talks about a similar problem but with no solution yet. http://forum.m0n0.ch/index.php/topic,1709.0.html

First of all, here is my hardware config :

monowall machine working with the bootCD 1.232 or 1.3b10 (for tests):
- core 2 duo
- 512 mb ddr2
- no hard-drive
- 2 intel Pro 1000 ethernet adapters for LAN and WAN.
- no DMZ
monowall is configured "by default" with dhcp activated, and captive portal enabled.
traffic shapping is activated with "p2p to minimum" option enabled (high school's network  Grin )
nobody is connected through the monowall except me, for tests.

my PC :
P4 2.8Ghz w/ Windows XP pro & 1Gb RAM & Intel Pro 1000 adapter.

my flat rate (guaranteed rates) :
18 Mbps down
1 Mbps up

my router :
- Netopia 3346N
- 100Mbps WAN
- 100Mbps LAN

my problem :

1- when i connect directly with my PC behind the router, i have 14500 kbps effective download rate (tested with speedtest.net)

2- when i connect throught monowall (in dhcp), i only have 7800 Kbps effective download rate (mesured with speedtest.net)

I have repeated the test about 10 times with the same results.

I have tried deactivating the traffic shapper -> same results
I have tried with both 1.232 and 1.3b10 versions. -> same results
CPU usage is normal (about 0 to 10%)
Bandwith usage is at 0% before starting the test.
for information, upload rate doesn't change throught monowall or directly behind the router.

Please help me.
I'm about to throw the CD to the bin and look for another solution  Cry .

thanks a lot,

ok guys this is crazy.

monowall is not in fault at all.

i just installed a patch for windows XP to enlarge the MTU size. now i have the same data rates using monowall or not. i found it here (french site) : http://www.orange.fr/bin/frame2.cgi?u=http%3A//assistance.wanadoo.fr/reponse1125.asp
 Huh
What i don't understand is that before aplying the patch, it worked good when connected directly to the router. not throught monowall...

Maybe a packets negociation story between monowall and clients, or limitations between monowall and my XP version...

don't know.

Anyway sorry for that topic. Please close it.
Thanks.
 Embarrassed
